knife care
A handmade knife is a high-performance tool. With basic care, it will stay sharp, clean, and reliable for years.
See video series below for more details.
1 - Proper Use
Cut straight
Only cut food
Use a good cutting board
Don’t twist, pry or scrape
2 - Cleaning
Synthetic handles require little to no maintenance
Wooden handles require occasional oiling or waxing to restore shine and feel
Sharpen on whetstones when stropping does not restore performance
Avoid honing rods, use fine ceramic rods only if preferred
3 - Edge care
Wash after every use, dry immediately
Stainless requires no maintenance, high-carbon steels require oiling as often as possible
4 - blade care
Wash only by hand
Dry immediately
Wipe away from the edge
5 - handle care
6 - storage
Never store loose in drawer, ideally use a wall magnet
Protect the edge, keep it dry
